“Today’s EOS launch: a concrete step towards building a consistent security market in Europe”

Brussels – (14 May 2008) – Fragmentation in the European market for security is undermining the capabilities of governments and the private sector to provide citizens with the protection they deserve and to allow business continuity for the economy. This is one of the key messages that emerged today at the conference which marked the launch of the European Organisation for Security - EOS - a private sector initiative of leading European companies open to all European private security stakeholders.

Brussels, Belgium – At its meeting of July 11, 2008, the Board of Directors of the European Organization for Security (EOS) appointed Robert Havas, Vice President Business Development and Security at EADS, as new Chairman of the Board.

The Board of Directors also appointed Gustavo Scotti di Uccio, Vice President for Strategyand New Business Affairs - National and International Organisations at Selex-SI and Mark Miller, Director of European Programmes at Cotecna as Vice-Chairmen. This is an important choice for EOS which, by having representatives of both large companies and Small andMedium Enterprises as vice chairs, re-affirms its holistic approach to security.

UPDATE 1-Fragmented security industry wants EU standards

BRUSSELS, May 14 (Reuters) - Common standards are needed across Europe to boost a fragmented security market, major companies involved in security such as France's Thales (TCFP.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) and Airbus parent EADS (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday. "This market is still very much fragmented and not as mature as it should be," Thales' chairman and chief executive CEO Denis Ranque said at a conference in Brussels. "The other way, apart from monopoly, to have a synchronised and well organised industry is to have common standards," Ranque said at the official launch of the European Organisation for Security (EOS), a nonprofit group aimed at creating a unified security market in Europe.
